Volunteer - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a non-volunteer fee?
A non-volunteer fee is a mandatory $50 (per family) fee that you will pay when you register your Youth child in a U5 to U18 summer soccer program. This fee will only be returned to you if you “volunteer” in an “eligible” activity during the year.

  2. What is a volunteer credit?
A non-volunteer fee converts to a volunteer credit once you volunteer in an “eligible” activity during the year. You will have the option to use this credit when you register for a future soccer program. The credit will never expire.

  3. What is an “eligible” activity?
To be eligible for the volunteer credit, you need to volunteer for at least  four-hours. A list of all eligible volunteer activities and the commitment timeframes are listed in the Volunteering – Eligible Activities Chart. You can find this document on the Volunteer Information page of the Ottawa TFC website.

  4. How do I apply to volunteer?
ALL volunteers (i.e., Coaches, Managers, or those assisting with other activities) must fill in a Team Official Application or Volunteer Application as applicable. This can either be done when you register your Youth child or at a different time. How you register will depend on whether you are the “main account holder”. Go to Q5 or Q6 as applicable.

  5. I am the main account holder and the volunteer. What do I do?
Answer “YES” to the volunteer question that will be shown in your basket when you register your youth child OR
    - Go to the Volunteer Now! section of your PowerUp account.
    - Click on the Application you wish to complete.
    - Click on the Apply Now button next to the season you will be volunteering in.
    - Click on the volunteer activities you are interested in helping with; and
    - Click Continue.

  6. If am NOT the main account but I want to volunteer. What do I do?
Answer “NO” to the volunteer question that will be shown in your Basket when you register your Youth child AND
    - Go to the Volunteer Now! section of your PowerUp account;.
    - Click on the Application you wish to complete.
    - Click on the Apply Now button next to the season (under the volunteer’s name)
    - Click on the volunteer activities you are interested in helping with; and
    - Click Submit.

  7. What if the volunteer’s name in Q. 5 is not showing?
The main account holder must go to the Profile section of their PowerUp account and Add a Player. Once the player is added:
    - Go to the Volunteer Now! section.
    - Click on the Application you wish to complete..
    - Click on the Apply Now button next to the Season (under the volunteer’s name).
    - Click on the volunteer activities in the application that he/she is interested in helping with; and
    - Click Continue.

  8. What happens after the volunteer application is submitted?
The application will be reviewed by the Ottawa TFC office and approved. Approved volunteers will be contacted when volunteer shifts become available.

  9. Does every member of the family need to complete the minimum 4-hour shift?
No. Since the non-volunteer fee is a family fee, only one family member needs to complete the duty.

  10. Can a teen who also needs hours for school complete the volunteer work for our family?
Yes. The work can be completed by a teen. However, the hours worked cannot be used both for the family credit AND school hours. You will have to determine how you would like the volunteer hours to be used.

  11. I signed up for a volunteer duty, however, my schedule has changed, and I am unable to volunteer that day. What should I do?
You must advise the Volunteer Coordinator or Ottawa TFC person overseeing the activity as soon as possible. Not showing up and not advising us prior to 24 hours before the event will disqualify you from being selected for a volunteer opportunity for the remainder of the season.

  12. When will my account be credited?
The volunteer credit will be processed on your PowerUp account using the Service Completion Timing shown in the Volunteering - Eligible Activities Chart. You can find this document on the Volunteer Information page of the Ottawa TFC website.

  13. How can I check if the credit to my account has been processed?
You can check on the status of your volunteer credit by logging in to your PowerUp account. All unused credits will show in the Payments/Receipts section of your PowerUp account under the Credit tab.

  14. What if I cannot access my account?
On the main log in page of PowerUp, request a password reset. If you still have a problem, send an email to admin@ottawatfc.com. Do NOT create a new account.

  15. What should I do if I do not see the credit in my account?
There are a couple of reasons why you may not see the credit in your account. The first one is you may have already used all (or part) of it when you registered a family member for a current program. The other reason is that the Volunteer Coordinator was not aware of your volunteer activity.

If you volunteered and do not see your credit, and it is after the Service Completion dates and you haven’t already used it, send an email to the Volunteer Coordinator. In your email, include your name, the volunteer activity completed and the date(s) you volunteered. If you volunteered as a Team Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager, Treasurer or Equipment Manager, include the name of the Head Coach, and the age, gender and name of the team. The Volunteer Coordinator will review this information and let you know if your credit has been approved.

Remember you must have paid the non-volunteer fee and volunteered to receive a $50 volunteer credit at the end of the activity or season.
