Grassroots Programs U4-U8

U4-U8 Grassroots Programs:

 U4-U5 Grassroots Program

At this stage, individual player development is paramount. Coaches and teachers stimulate a learning environment where the atmosphere is "Freedom and Fun."  Most players in this program are exploring the game for the first time, and we hope they enjoy it, start to learn the core skills, and begin to form a love for the beautiful game.

The weekly on-field sessions have the kids moving between skills exercises and small-sided games on a rotational basis.  The format ensures the kids get lots of important touches on the ball, get to play a lot, and it's a lot of fun!  Sessions last about 45 minutes, but the whole event can take up to an hour between arrival, and tidying up.

The sessions themselves are run by our most talented senior youth players, who are beginning their coaching journey at the club.  The coaches are trained and licensed, and guided/supervised by our academy staff coaches.

U5-U8 Skills Centre

U5-U8 players have the option of joining the skills centre which includes technical development and games run by club coaches and our top technical assistants.

At Ottawa TFC we place an enormous emphasis on teaching and inspiring our youngest players.  We are not  a club that hopes to "recruit" talented players for our top teams at older ages, but rather strive to develop homegrown players into top athletes from within our very own ranks here at the club.  In recent years this philosophy has helped us build one of the most respected Academy programs in the Province and Country.

The U5-U8 Skills Centre (formally known as the "Ninjas" program) is the starting point of this development.  It is open to all young players in Ottawa, and aims to produce young players who can run, jump, sprint, roll, spin with grace and precision, while also being comfortable with a ball at their feet

Game play is included in the program of course, and basic playing concepts are introduced, but the emphasis is on technical soccer skills and physical literacy (overall athleticism).

U6-U8 Pre-Academy

The U6-U8  Pre-Academy is the first step towards our nationally aclaimed academy programs and our "talented player pathway".  The program welcomes the most focused, and dedicated players in our U6-U8 programs to train and play a little extra with our Academy coaching staff, and prepares players for the U9 Academy programs and beyond.

Players will work with some our club's most qualified coaches, and can expect to regularly work through small sided games, technical exercises (ball mastery), physical literacy (strength, speed, coordination, balance, general athleticism), and 1v1 exercises.

Pre-Academy players must participate in the U6-U8 grassroots program each week (either Gloucester or Orleans Campus).  In addition, they attend a second weekly training session with the Pre-Academy and U9 Competitive players, while also participating in Saturday morning match play in the highly popular champion's league with other competitive players across the club.
